Snowy Saturday

If you know me for more than 30 seconds, you will know that I am NOT a fan of winter. Maybe you will figure it out after 20 seconds even, loud and clear 😉 Funny though, this year, I don't know... maybe it is the fact that we have been blessed with a mild winter so far... or that I don't actually have to go out but I am not minding winter so much. Actually, today was almost nice. We woke up to a big snow dump and the temperature was bearable... even the boys didn't complain about going outside. I almost liked it... almost 😉

I still miss my sandals though 😉 xox

Perfect snowman snow

A little winter football

Really hoping the snow wouldn't dump on my head as I took the picture!

Not all that bad ;)

The strangest Saturday night...

Last night, I had appointment to get an MRI done at our local hospital. Apparently, the evening MRI sessions are fairly ordinary because the technicians have to be there in case of emergency anyway. So, rather than just having the machines and technicians sit there, routine non-emergency MRIs are booked fairly late in the evening. Despite the procedure sounding pretty drastic, I only had it done for the same arm/shoulder injury that I have since February.
Anyway, let me tell you that it was the strangest Saturday night that I ever had... and I had some pretty strange Saturday nights ;) Firstly, there is a lot of construction going on in Montreal. This means that I had no idea on how to get to the hospital and was faced with a bunch of detours that made absolutely no sense and took about 45 minutes more than it should. Secondly, the hospital was dark and deserted, which made it look really creepy. It is not the building itself because, on a normal day, I sometimes go there for work meetings so it is pretty familiar. When it is dark and empty, I totally don't recognize it anymore. I think that, from the parking lot to the actual imaging department, I must have crossed the path of 4 people (and 2 of them were cleaners).
After having arrived late because of the detours and random traffic because of nothing, I found myself in a dark, abandoned looking waiting room with 3 other people. The only reason why we knew we were in the right place was a sign which essentially said "You are in the right place. Please don't leave." Hmmm.... reassuring ;)
The night only became stranger when I was asked about metal plates in my head and pacemakers in my heart. The technician then asked me to put on a very fashionable gown and blue slippers that were very suitable for my meeting with the "alien pod". This was my first MRI and, honestly, I could have sworn that I was making contact with distant extraterrestrial worlds. About 5 minutes into the procedure (which already felt like 5 hours), I had to stop myself from laughing because it was too freaking strange. They had strapped me to the "bed" and put some funny looking headphones on me to "block out" the most bizarre sounds that I ever heard. I would not have been surprised if I was only there because some alien had recruited me for some spacey experiments.
After the 2 week 20 minute procedure, the weird sounds finally stopped and I was allowed to come out of the machine. I said happily thanks and good-bye to the technicians, one of whom I was sure asked me about how I liked life on Mars ;) The place was as deserted on my way out as on my way in (actually, it was more deserted because the other 3 people who had initially waited with me had left already). Although I had taken absolute care to park as close to the elevators as possible (so I could find it again), it seemed that my car was much further away than I had remembered ;) Decidedly, this was one of the most bizarre Saturday nights! I wonder if my test results will include a Martian letter of rejection ;)

Hope you all have a nice rest of the weekend xox

So many people ;)

Don't be too jealous of my fashionable outfit ;)

OK... a bit creepy...

Usually, there are line ups in front of the elevators!

Where is my car? ;)

Saturday

Last night was pretty crappy: I had a headache that just knocked me out. Even though it was better by the morning, I felt wiped. Usually, that would put a pretty big dent in my day but, today, I was actually fine with it. The sun was shining and I had a good excuse not to do anything... or go anywhere...  and, sometimes, we all need a day like that ;) Andreas put out the patio furniture. I helped him do some planting in the garden. The boys played on the trampoline. We had a nice, relaxing day in our backyard and it was a real treat!

This summer, we decided to only do very short trips away from home. Even though we had a great holiday in Scandinavia last summer, I am looking forward to spending time here... at home... enjoying our own space. There are so many outdoor projects that we would like to do and it will be so nice to actually get to them for a change. Is it wrong to want to be lazy? ;) Sign me up!

Hope you all had a great Saturday! xox

Outside

Today was a beautiful sunny day and where were the boys? Yups... playing video games. Anyway, after the usual conversation that started with "You know, when I was your age....", all three boys were kicked outside the house and onto our street to play... play anything!!!! This is proof that they were actually removed from a screen for more than an hour. Also, considering that Oliver is the only one lately that has any patience for my photos, this is also proof that I still have three boys ;)

Happy Saturday! Tomorrow, we have family over for Easter but I will try to actually get a decent blog post written. My apologies for being so uninspired lately. It is the end of the semester and I feel like I am stuck in quicksand ;)

Saturday

Since the boys have been sick all week, I fell behind in a lot of home and work stuff so, today, I made myself a very long to-do list. It is filled with all sorts of important stuff like 1) correct manuscript for submission to journal, 2) prepare lecture for Monday's class, 3) finish folding laundry, 4) shovel balcony in back of house because I am sick of seeing all the snow on it, 4) take dogs out for longer walk because I was in no mood to do it this morning so they got stuck with a quick pee exit, 5) vacuum, 6) banking (because I am sure that I am late for something... just haven't had the time to figure out what yet), 7) organize trip to Netherlands (yes, Ageeth, I am still coming!), 8) sit with Alexander to get homework organized for Monday, 8) vacuum again because I am sure that someone has messed the house up since the last time I did it- see item 5, 9) have more coffee because the first pot will not be enough and 10) pick up Andreas from the airport (yes, he is on his way home... just in time to clean up the latest snowfall)!

Wish me luck! This list is about as high as our snowbanks! Happy Saturday to you all xox

Views from work

Both yesterday and today were long days at work. We had a conference, where I had to present. Now I am back home and enjoying some relaxing time before the rush of putting the boys to bed. I am tempted to make some tea... but way too lazy to get up ;)

Boy, I remember when Saturday nights meant being out late. Now, I will be surprised if I make it until 8:00 ;)

Whatever you are doing, I wish you a good one! xox

The view from the conference hall was awesome!

Saturday cosy

Andreas is out with the big boys, watching Star Wars, and I am home with Oliver. Sometimes, we just need to have a bit of cosy... :) It has been very snowy lately... and very cold... so it is nice to be inside and warm!

Happy Saturday night xox

Saturday night cosy

Andreas is sitting at the kitchen table, getting some work done. Nicka and Alexander have some friends over so they are playing video games down in the basement. I am hanging out with Oliver on the couch. Sometimes, it is the small moments that make the weekend so worth it!

Wishing you all a cosy Saturday night xox

Good excuse

I played 2 games of soccer this morning and it is grey/rainy outside... are these good enough excuses just to enjoy being at home? Some days, I just like to blame my couch-potato-ness on external factors and not just me being lazy ;) Oh yeah... I did another load of laundry so does that count for extra couch points? ;)

Wishing you all a good Saturday xox

Tusind tak til Catarina for ideen! ;)

Yup... I am staying home ;)

Ahhh... Saturday night

Saturday night used to mean going out... partying... staying up late. Now, a good Saturday night means a good dinner made, the boys cosy in their pajamas, the adults cosy in their pajamas, a very rainy night and not having to go out, a glass of good wine, some good music in the background and nothing else to do for the evening... Ahhhh....

Wishing you all a good Saturday evening... no matter how you wish to spend it xox

Saturday morning

I honestly have no idea what happened! It was Sunday... and then, suddenly, it was Saturday morning. Actually, it was Friday night but I was so exhausted that any sort of resemblance to a blog post had to wait until this morning ;) It was not that the week was any more chaotic than usual but it was just busy.... always busy.... The high school homework situation definitely contributes to that, however, I am proud of Alexander for doing his best to keep a control of what needs to be done and for when. He also made his high school's soccer team so he is also juggling the practices and games. The younger boys are now in the groove of what they need to do on a weekly basis... whew! Finding the routine is one of the biggest challenges for me/us. September, as much as I love it, is always a challenge. Sometimes, even more than the Christmas season ;)
This weekend Andreas is away for work so, to make up for it, I promised the boys that we would go to a restaurant for dinner. In hindsight, this might have been a big crazy on my part ;) I blame it on the chaos of the week ;) I will be picking some super friendly family restaurant... that serves wine ;)
Today's goal is to start tacking homework projects before they become the-night-before-due-date-nightmares. Another goal is to enjoy a day where there are no running-to activities. Wish me luck!

Happy Saturday xox

Saturday morning

This morning, Andreas surprised me by removing all the snow from our balcony... YAH! I guess that he DOES love me! We may even be able to enjoy a cup of coffee outside later today :) Until then, it is the perfect place to exercise. Oliver is on an exercise kick because he wants to outrun the fastest boy in his kindergarten class.... Watch out, Wyatt! There is competition in town ;) I prefer his exercise ambitions than his brothers' desires to get the high scores on Clan Royale ;)

Happy Saturday xox

Cool dudes... at the dentist?

Alexander had his first sleepover birthday party last night.... and, even if the younger boys stayed upstairs, everyone is tired today. Not a good day for having to go to the dentist ;) Surprisingly, all three boys did well and were very cool on top of it all! Oliver would only get on the dentist chair if he was sitting on my lap so I ended up in the pictures... but not looking so cool ;) That is what happens when you become a 40years+ mother... you are not so cool anymore. Maybe it was because I didn't get the cool sunglass eye protectors? Anyway, whatever it is, I embrace my non cool status... haha!

Wishing you all a great Saturday night :)

Cosy

I used to love to go out on a Saturday night! Now my favourite thing is to cosy and watch cartoons with my boys. Yesterday, Oliver was a good sport and let me bother him during his TV watching time ;)

Have a nice evening! For those that had daylight savings time last night, hope no one feels too jetlagged ;)

Saturday

Alexander and Nicka started their basketball season again today so part of the day was spent getting them to their practices. Andreas and I also had some work that we needed to get done (Andreas has to present our results at a conference next week). Despite all this, we managed to get some cosy-home time in. I actually got to lie down in bed and listen to the radio for about half of an uninterrupted hour of CBC* geekdom!! Heaven ;) Now I am preparing dinner and enjoying a nice glass of wine... oh yeah, and some chocolate :) Hope you are all having a great weekend so far xox

*For those of you who are not familiar with Canadian radio.... CBC stands for the Canadian Broadcast Corporation, which is our public radio. The weekends are filled with great radio documentaries and talk shows. I told you that I was a geek ;)

YUM! My fave :)

Rain, rain....

It was very humid all day yesterday (30degrees C, feeling like 40).... until the thunder and lightning rolled in.... just as we were about to play our semi-final soccer game!!! :( What a let down! On the bright side, it is cooler and more bearable today. We've had lots of rain overnight and throughout the day so everything is very, very green! It is also kind of nice just to stay at home, especially after the crazy week that I/we just had!
Tomorrow, Alexander is playing in his soccer finals. Unfortunately, I am playing at exactly the same time! I hope that Andreas takes lots of pictures and that Alexander feels all the good wishes and love that I am sending from my game :) I'll let you all know how these games go! Please wish us luck! If my team wins, then we go to the finals!! Yah!
Happy Saturday to you all :)

Oliver's plant is getting a bit of a shower!

This whole plant (pumpkin) came from one small seed that Andreas planted in the spring!

Lots of rain!

Outside my house... we warned you ;)
