When the skies are grey.....

.... trouble is on its way ;) Yesterday, our boys were excited to see their BEST FRIENDS EVER! We had them over and, when boys cannot be entertained outside because of thunderstorms, they make their own fun inside. Unfortunately, this mother doesn't always understand their definition of fun. I think it included Mortal Combat, soccer, sumo wrestling and each other. The boys caught on right away! Andreas just pretended ;) Happy day to you all xox

A little break....

Today started off with lots of rain..... and 14 degree C temperatures :) Take that snow! We're getting a little bit of a break before cold weather and snow is back again. That is fine! I'll take it :)

Lately

Two days ago, a man killed a soldier in a small Quebec town called St. Jean sur Richelieu. He ran over this poor solider and a colleage with a car (the colleague survived). It was intentional. No one really knows why this happened but they figure it is because the RCMP deemed him a risk and removed his passport so that he could not fight with terrorist organizations in Iraq/Syria.
Today, another solider was killed outside our Parliament in Ottawa. An unnamed man shot him and then went into our government buildings, shooting away. He was killed too. No more information is available as of yet.

What on earth is going on?

My thoughts are with the family and friends of the poor soldiers. My thoughts are with our democracy. My thoughts are with my country and fellow citizens. My thoughts are also with the families of those individuals who did the shooting and are left to wonder why.... Unfortunately, this is Canada lately....

Lots of rain...

It has been very wet and grey lately. I have to admit that I don't mind it so much..... as long as it is NOT SNOW!!!! ;) Then you will all hear me complain! Bet you can't wait ;)

May you all have a nice and relaxing evening.... and a dry one!

Appreciating the little things...

It is midterm exam time.... so that means that it is just about as busy for the profs as it is for the students...even if they don't realize it ;) Among the craziness, I have to stop and appreciate some of the little things that make autumn special... things like a fresh crisp apple (picked by Oliver himself), colourful leaves, a good shot of espresso from our local Italian bakery and some warm weather, despite the rain!
Hope you are all having a good week xox

Rain, rain....

It was very humid all day yesterday (30degrees C, feeling like 40).... until the thunder and lightning rolled in.... just as we were about to play our semi-final soccer game!!! :( What a let down! On the bright side, it is cooler and more bearable today. We've had lots of rain overnight and throughout the day so everything is very, very green! It is also kind of nice just to stay at home, especially after the crazy week that I/we just had!
Tomorrow, Alexander is playing in his soccer finals. Unfortunately, I am playing at exactly the same time! I hope that Andreas takes lots of pictures and that Alexander feels all the good wishes and love that I am sending from my game :) I'll let you all know how these games go! Please wish us luck! If my team wins, then we go to the finals!! Yah!
Happy Saturday to you all :)

Oliver's plant is getting a bit of a shower!

This whole plant (pumpkin) came from one small seed that Andreas planted in the spring!

Lots of rain!

Outside my house... we warned you ;)

Brotherly love ;)

Over the past few days, it has been super cold and very rainy so we have been stuck indoors. We were supposed to have left to go camping on Tuesday but, thankfully, the men (we're going with another couple) decided it was best to pospone the trip. I CANNOT imagine being stuck in a tent with 3 bored small boys and 1 bored big boy ;) Torture! Even in our house, with 2 floors and different rooms, the boys keep fighting because they are bored. Today, I found a note, written by Alexander (see pictures). Guess we all know how he feels about his brother? ;)

Happy weekend to you all!

This is what our weather looks like lately...

So, Alexander, how do you really feel about your brother? ;)

Thundershowers = no swimming lessons

When we woke up this morning, the skies were rumbling! It wasn't even a question of finding out if the swimmng lessons would be cancelled... we all knew for sure that it would be a home day. I took Oliver into daycare so he could hang with his posse and he actually seemed to be happy to go ;) It is "car show and tell day" so he was excited for the trip in this morning, with all 3 fave cars in hand.
It never ceases to amaze me how much I can get done at home when I get a good home day in- even managed to bake some bread and cut Alexander's hair (NOT THE BANGS- his specific instructions)! I know that the boys are totally bored (yes, I am making them read again today) but, at least, they can appreciate that not going to the pool is the fault of Mother Nature, instead of Mother Boring at Home ;) Maybe they will be lucky and the storm will clear up for this afternoon...

Have a great day!

Happy to be at home

It is a rainy, grey, cool day today so we have decided to stay at home. I really don't mind- sometimes, with all the running around, it is kind of nice to become grounded  by enjoying our home and each other (yeah, I wish!). The boys are downstairs, discovering toys that they didn't even remember that they had. It is kind of like Christmas ;) I get to start my workday a bit early and make some of my home secretary phone calls that I have been putting off. Coffee is on and cinnamon bread is in the oven :) (The cinnamon bread is ok because I get to burn it off with 2 soccer games this evening!).
Hope you all have a good day!

Lots of rain on our window!

Life is short

Today, Andreas and I went to the funeral of a friend/colleague of ours. His passing was very sudden and very sad. The world has lost a good soul and a great teacher. Lesson learned: life is short. Sometimes too short.... Do not waste an opportunity to be true to yourself and to tell those around you how much you care about them.

You are in our thoughts...

Sleep overs and other outdoor activities ;)

Last night, Alexander went to his first sleep over birthday party. He had a great time but, whoo, he is pretty tired today! I know that he is ready to spend nights away from us but I have to admit that I really miss him when he is not around... so do his brothers, although they would never say so ;)
Today, we spent some time outside. I have to say that this winter/spring has been/is pretty crappy. Western parts of Canada still get snow... terrible! Anyway, we make do....

Summer better be good ;)

Alexander took this picture of me.... my new "blonder" look from a box ;)

Looking tough....

Even if there are rain drops, I will sit outside and have a glass of wine ;)

April showers bring May flowers.... I hope ;)

Today is really rainy outside. This means 2 things: 1) the boys are totally bored and 2) I don't know what to do with them ;) I am trying to take advantage of the crappy weather in order to tackle some of the work that I didn't get done because we were all sick (!!!). Anyway, the boys are not buying that...

I think that I may have briefly mentioned it before but I am a scientist. You know the whole publish or perish thing? Well, it is true... so yesterday, when I managed to get a paper published, it was a good day! Today, I am sort of still in relax mode because I finally got that work off my plate :) Andreas even bought me flowers! Impressive...

For this evening's dinner, I am going to fix tacos for the boys (all 4 of them) and maybe treat myself to a cosy glass of wine.... Happy Saturday to all!

Grey day

Today is very grey and rainy but I actually don't mind it. We need a good clean and the temperature, so far, is pretty warm. Tonight, though, the forecast is for more snow (!). Hopefully the ground is warm enough and it will all melt....

Lots of corrections to do today so I have lots of coffee on hand :) Had to stock up this morning, on my way into work. Wish me luck! Good day to you all!

A bit of green :)

Grey day and cheery art

Today was very grey and a little bit snowy. I am not complaining, though. Just east of us there was a terrible blizzard with 40+cm of snow, closed roads and cancelled flights so I consider us lucky. Nicklas also brought home a great origami picture of a cat with goldfish that he made at school- a nice end to the day!
