Happy birthday, Oliver!

Today, my baby turns 8.... not such a baby anymore! Sometimes, I wish time would slow down... just a little bit ;) Happy birthday, Oli-boli! We love you!

Small gratitudes

All winter, I have been physically craving sun and warmth. You know, the kind of warm sun that finally thaws your bones and fills your soul. Well, I finally got it. I took a moment to feel the sun on my face and the green grass under my feet. Trust me, I was thankful. The brightly coloured flowers, my favourite polka dot dress and an awesome cup of coffee didn't hurt the good vibes either ;)

Saturday

Last night was pretty crappy: I had a headache that just knocked me out. Even though it was better by the morning, I felt wiped. Usually, that would put a pretty big dent in my day but, today, I was actually fine with it. The sun was shining and I had a good excuse not to do anything... or go anywhere...  and, sometimes, we all need a day like that ;) Andreas put out the patio furniture. I helped him do some planting in the garden. The boys played on the trampoline. We had a nice, relaxing day in our backyard and it was a real treat!

This summer, we decided to only do very short trips away from home. Even though we had a great holiday in Scandinavia last summer, I am looking forward to spending time here... at home... enjoying our own space. There are so many outdoor projects that we would like to do and it will be so nice to actually get to them for a change. Is it wrong to want to be lazy? ;) Sign me up!

Friday

Today, I got to work from home... which usually includes me actually getting the chance to see my house in daylight.... and noticing all the dust bunnies.... and pulling out the vacuum cleaner... and about 5 million other cleaning products ;)

After getting some work done (and a good clean), I made a big pot of coffee, filled up 2 travel mugs and met Andreas so that we could see Alexander's rugby game. I said it last year and I will say it again: Rugby is the perfect boy game (I am sure it is good for girls too but I don't really know about them so much if you know what I mean): they run after a ball... they throw a ball... they tackle each other... and today was raining so that added to the fun ;)

I love Friday nights because they are so optimistic. There is always so much hope that I will actually get my long list of things-to-do done over the weekend and there is so much time left to do it in. Sunday is the sad day where I realize that I didn't really succeed and there is no time left ;)

Friday evening calm 

Shine bright like a diamond...

Yes.... another Oliver-ism 😉

Today, on the way home from work, we (Andreas, Oliver and I) were listening to the radio. The talk show host was interviewing an alumni from McGill (not even in biochemistry but political science, in case you wanted to know) that was now a co-founder of a company that makes diamonds from dead people's ashes (seriously... here is the link... and I must emphasize that this is NOT a paid advert 😉). Oliver got very quiet and then asked about HOW they make the ashes into diamonds. I started to explain that we are made of carbon... and so are diamonds... and.... and.... Anyway, he then interrupted me and asked- of course, when I am dead- if he could make a diamond out of me (WAY too much Minecraft, if you want my opinion)... and only in a long time from now because I am not that old (gee, thanks!).

Our conversation just added a whole new meaning to "Shine bright like a diamond" 😉
